NEWH Green Voice Design Competition
Scholarship Sponsored by The Hospitality Industry Network
The NEWH Green Voice Design Competition offers a platform for students to display their design talents, with a focus on the use of sustainable design materials and methods. The prizes, generously provided by our sponsors, are awarded to one undergraduate and one graduate student, including airfare and accommodation for the awards ceremony at BDNY in New York in November.
Who Can Apply?
- Only students studying Interior Design or Architecture; either undergraduate (in a 4-year program) or graduate students from an accredited institution.
- A maximum of two students, majoring in Interior Design or Architecture, can collaborate as a team. If they win, the $7,500 scholarship will be divided equally. Each student will also receive paid travel and accommodation for the awards ceremony.
- The winner(s) must be available to attend the awards ceremony, with travel and accommodation provided. The event takes place annually in November at BDNY in New York. If a student cannot attend, they may nominate one college representative to attend in their place.
Competition Rules
The competition's criteria vary each year. Students are required to create a unique, innovative design using top-quality sustainable products and technologies. The design should address sustainability issues such as site selection, water efficiency, energy conservation, products/materials, and indoor environmental quality. The design should also consider the daily functionality of the space and promote sustainable practices like recycling, water and energy conservation. All submissions must be the original work of the student and will be judged on their professional appearance by a panel of industry experts. See the full criteria for complete project requirements.
This year's competition also challenges students to incorporate a new diabetes treatment concept into their design, promoting health and wellness in sustainable living spaces.
Prizes
- $7,500 scholarship for an undergraduate student
- $7,500 scholarship for a graduate student
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be a currently enrolled student with past, current or future college debt for tuition or program-approved books/supplies. The scholarship funds are payable to and sent directly to the student’s college. If no graduate student is selected due to not meeting the project criteria, the graduate scholarship funds will be allocated to the interior design program of the winning undergraduate student's school, and vice versa. The interior design program can use the award to improve the educational resources or materials of the design studio. A representative from the school must be able to attend the award presentation. The scholarship awards are kindly donated by NEWH Friends of Green Voice sponsors.
