ERC Eco Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Environmental Research Center
Introduction
These awards are intended to support graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue higher education in environmental health sciences. Individual scholarships of $1,000 will be granted to applicants whose past and ongoing activities reflect strong civic responsibility and commitment to environmental stewardship. An application form is available online.
Eligibility
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a graduating high school senior who will be accepted to a two- or four-year accredited California college or university and intend to major in an environmental studies program.
- Hold a minimum high school GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Have completed at least one high school science course beyond the state minimum graduation requirement.
- Be a United States citizen and a current resident of California.
Application process
There is no fixed application deadline; awards are distributed on a rolling basis.
Required materials:
1. A fully completed application form.
2. An essay (maximum three (3) double-spaced typed pages) formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font. If you include a reference list, attach it at the end of the essay — it will not count toward the page limit. Do not include images or graphics in the essay.
3. Between two and four letters of recommendation. At least one letter must come from a school faculty member; all other references should be non-family personal references.
4. An official high school transcript.
Essay topic
Essays should address environmental and health-related topics; beyond that focus, applicants are free to choose their specific subject. The committee looks for candidates whose writing and background demonstrate alignment with the Environmental Research Center’s goals and a clear sense of civic and environmental responsibility.
How to submit
Electronic submission via the online application form is strongly preferred.
Hard-copy applications may be mailed to:
ATTN: Cancer Scholarship Committee, Environmental Research Center

Please note: Failure to adhere to the application instructions may result in disqualification.
Use of funds and follow-up
Scholarship funds may be used for necessary educational expenses such as tuition, living costs, textbooks, supplies, institutional fees, and expenses for special projects.
Within six (6) months after the scholarship is awarded, recipients must provide a brief report (up to one page) to the ERC Eco Scholarship Fund Committee summarizing their activities and accomplishments.
