Black Student Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Central Valley Scholars
About the Scholarship
Central Valley Scholars supports Black students by centering storytelling and by reserving opportunity for those most impacted by systemic oppression. The program was founded to counter traditional merit-based selection practices and to validate narratives often dismissed by educational institutions. It emphasizes holistic review, community-centered values, and the belief that every student is worthy of investment. The Black Student Scholarship specifically acknowledges the effects of bias, microaggressions, and systemic barriers on educational access and advancement.
History of the Award: The scholarship was created to uplift stories marginalized by conventional selection systems and to provide accessible funding pathways for Black students in the Central Valley.
- Founded to prioritize storytelling over traditional metrics.
- Designed for students facing systemic barriers in education.
- Employs a holistic review process rather than relying on GPA or recommendations.
