Leo Lucas Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Ohio School Boards Association
Overview
The OSBA Black Caucus exists to educate and support its members and others who are interested in the particular challenges and opportunities faced by African-American school board members throughout Ohio. The caucus works to strengthen leadership, share practical solutions, and advance equitable outcomes in the state’s public schools.
Purpose and Priorities
The caucus focuses on:
- Creating a statewide platform to address the real-world concerns of Black and other ethnically and culturally diverse school board members.
- Promoting, advocating for, and increasing public understanding of matters related to racial diversity and equity in education.
- Supporting programs and initiatives designed to improve the academic success of Black students and students from other ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Leo Lucas Scholarship
The Leo Lucas Scholarship honors the late Leo Lucas — a Dayton City school board member and educator who founded the caucus. This scholarship awards college funding to graduating high school seniors from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Applications are currently being accepted.
