Overview
This award recognizes students who demonstrate an interest in engineering, the physical sciences, or other technical disciplines and who also show leadership, strong personal character, academic accomplishment, aptitude, and financial need.
Use of Award and Timing
Scholarship funds may be applied toward any costs handled through the recipient’s school Financial Aid Administrator, such as tuition, fees, and textbooks. Winners will be announced prior to the end of the current academic term, and scholarships will be disbursed before the start of the college fall term. If a recipient withdraws from school or does not begin using the scholarship funds by 1 October of the year following the award, the unused funds will be revoked.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements and be sponsored by either an individual or corporate member of an NDIA Division, or by members of high schools or colleges/universities located within the Gulf Coast Chapter’s immediate area. Applicants who are already recipients of a full scholarship (for example, from a military academy, ROTC, or similar full-ride awards) are not eligible.
Applicants must:
- Be a United States citizen.
- Be a responsible high school graduate, a current high school senior (public or private), or a college student, and have a recommendation from their school and/or sponsor.
- Have attended a high school in Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, or Walton Counties, Florida, for at least two years prior to high school graduation.
- Have applied to, or be enrolled as an undergraduate at, an accredited four-year college or university.
- Have demonstrated prior interest in pursuing a career in a scientific, technical, engineering, or mathematical (STEM) field.
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors:
1) Demonstrated interest in STEM or other technical career paths. For this scholarship:
- Engineering is taken to mean the applied science that uses properties of matter and energy for useful purposes. Relevant engineering disciplines include, but are not limited to: Aerospace; Chemical; Civil; Computer Science; Electrical; Industrial; Mechanical; Biomedical; and Software Engineering.
- Other related technical areas include fields such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
2) Leadership qualities.
3) Academic achievement.
4) Evidence of financial need, strong character, and other notable accomplishments.
